Blazin Paddles is a local Kayak Tour company. Specifically, they offer one of the most amazing experience there is in Las Vegas. The day paddle tour from Hover Dam to Willow Beach. You will find the store located inside the Hover Dam Lodge.
Is it worth taking a Blazin Paddles tour?
Yes it is! Probably one of the best experiences.
To demonstrate, it all starts with a short ride from the company store down to the base of Hoover Dam via the closed Lower Portal Road. This is a secure area, which everyone is required to show valid ID and be submitted for a entry permit.
At the bottom of the road we immediately launch off for the 6 hour kayak day. I believe this vantage provide some of the most awesome views that very few people get to experience. I have plenty of experience on the dam and even inside it, but this takes the cake.
Firstly, after about 100 yards is the first stop. It is located on the Nevada side. A small cave entrance called the Sauna Cave. This has hot springs coming through it. This causes the cave to become a “sauna”. Its completely dark, hot and humid.
Is the kayak tour hard?
The kayak tour is not easy. You must be prepared for a long day.
Following the Sauna Cave, is the Nevada Goldstrike Hot Springs. This is easily accessible from the beach. A short walk up the trail and you will find the hot spring. It is very big considering it was sandbag in to create a pretty big pool. You can actually reach these hot springs from a trail starting near the Hoover Dam Lodge.
Afterwards, down the river a little on the Arizona side is the Arizona Hot Springs. This spot requires a small walk up the trail from the beach. You know you are in the right spot when you reach the ladder up to the hot springs. This a new ladder that leads to the spot. At the top you will find the spots to soak in.
Is the Emerald Cave worth visiting?
Not really, there is always a line and is anti climactic.
Further down river from the Arizona Hot Springs, you will eventually come across the Gauging Station. It is hard to believe there use to be someone out every day to gauge the height of the river. This must have been one awesome job to do.
Beyond the Gauging Station and before the end at Willow Beach, you will come across Emerald Cave on the Arizona side. This place you can not miss. There are always kayakers lined up to get a photo in the cave with the emerald waters.
Would I recommend a kayak tour?
I would highly recommend taking the kayak tour.
Furthermore, the entire time you will see plenty of wild life. Everything from Birds, fish, and even Big Horn Sheep. In addition, this is a perfect way to enjoy the outdoors and get a very unique perspective. It is really a great experience that make me keep coming back for more.
For example, the day we went we had perfect conditions. There was a little overcast to block the sun. The temperature started at 65 in the morning and reaching a high of only 85. The best part, there was very little to no wind. This can be a very spoiling time. Typically expect higher temperatures and wind.
Eventually, you will reach the end of the tour. You land at Willow Beach and the company takes it over from there. All you do is wait for a ride back to the start at Hoover Dam Lodge.
In conclusion, this is a must do! One of the most spectacular experience the Las Vegas area can provide. A very unique experience. Spectacular views. I highly recommend taking this tour. I know I will be returning for another paddle. The experience alone is worth it all. Lastly, you can find more information on Blazin Paddles site.
